Honeywell Refrigeration Control Open New Training Centre
An interview with Honeywell Refrigeration
Control's resident Service Training Officer, Alex McRoberts
shows how the company is committed to providing 'best practice'
training for affiliates and commercial customers.
What training do you currently provide?
'First and most importantly, we train the people in our service
department in the use of all current and newly released
Honeywell products (this includes both the staff here and the
service engineers in the field). Secondly, we offer training to
customers and contractors who work with our equipment on a
day-to-day basis. We also train Honeywell Authorised System
Partners such as Cool Controls in Ireland, and affiliates such
as Honeywell France, Germany and Honeywell representatives as
far afield as the United Arab Emirates and Australia. Training
includes how to install, service, and upgrade Honeywell
Refrigeration Control equipment as well as providing 'best
practice' guidance on new working practices and legislation.
Finally, anyone can request training and we will arrange
specific training for them to their time scale and budget.
Our training days include a general overview of our products and how they
operate with the control application as well as specific customer tailored
packages for the contract that the customer is currently working on. These
customised packages include detailed training for the equipment used in that
contract - in this way training is more efficient and useful to the customer
than a standardised training package. For example a major retailer requested
that training be provided for their contractors for the Honeywell equipment
supplied to their stores. This rolling training program has been highly
successful and serves as the benchmark for future training presentations.'
What are your plans for growing this service?
'In terms of growth, contractors acquire new contracts, which means that
they need new training in the latest equipment and practices. We are always
trying to encourage contractors to take up our offer of training. It helps
them to become more efficient, it gives them the confidence to handle our
products which in turn saves them time and therefore money, as the end
customer finds that service call-outs are reduced as a better understanding
of the product is attained. We are hoping to at least double our training
programme for the forthcoming year by providing our customers with a
complete training package in our new in-house training 'centre of
excellence'. We are also encouraging our customers to train with us here at
Newhouse.'
'We recommend up to 8 persons per class, who are
provided with full product literature and instruction. We can also
tailor-make the presentation and provide it at our customers premises if
required.'
What
facilities does this new training 'centre of excellence' provide?
'Our new training centre consists of the following facilities:
 |
Purpose built product display room with latest
Honeywell RC and HVAC product offerings |
 |
10 seater seminar / presentation room. |
 |
Purpose built product demonstration / training
room with Honeywell control products controlling standard display
cases and compressors. This allows for trainees to install,
commission and operate control equipment in a controlled and safe
environment. |
 |
Dedicated 'Central Station' reporting and alarm
facility connected to networked supermarkets. |
The training centre product demonstration room is the centre-piece of the
facility where the equipment is installed and displayed as it would be found
in a typical store. Our goal is to provide our trainees with 'real-life'
situations. However, if we cannot simulate an installation or application
problem then we can go off-site to the customers designated store and
provide the necessary training there.
We are encouraging customers to come to the facilities
here, where we aim to have it in use as much as possible. When it's not
being used for training, it will be available to the other Honeywell RC
departments as well as functioning as a display room in which to show
customers how our products work, including stand-alone and networked control
systems as well as introducing other Honeywell compatible products from our
HVAC, lighting, and Security systems. All of which can be integrated into a
complete 'controls' solution from one supplier - Honeywell.'
